Back-to-School Year Info

Hello Seahawk parents and guardians,

Welcome back to school! I hope this document will answer most of your questions.

Here are the most important dates you need right now:

•
Thursday, August 5th: student schedule are available at the Open Campus event
•
Tuesday, August 10th: classes begin for ALL students.  Students will attend a homeroom for the first 15 minutes of the day.  Posters will be up all the around campus for students to find these rooms.  Homerooms are NOT on schedules.
•
Monday, September 6th: Labor Day Holiday

*NOTE: Student schedules MIGHT change before the first day of school. As we make the shifts to even classes and adjust our Master Schedule, your child’s classes may change.  ALL students will get a printed schedule on the first day in their homeroom.

Let’s start with how you will get your child’s course information. Orange County Public Schools uses Skyward “Family Access” system to access all your child’s information and classes. Family Access is the parent portal that will allow you to see your student’s grades, attendance, schedule, and other important information.

After August 5th, you will need to register for a LaunchPad account to access Skyward Family Access. You may already have an account created from last year so you will not need to do this again.
Get Launchpad Directions here, and then click on “documentation”, follow the directions in “This is the 1st step”.

LaunchPad is essentially a portal site that will provide you with automated access to different OCPS systems that parents and guardians will utilize – such as Canvas. Canvas is where your student will have all their assignments and projects for each class they are enrolled in at our school.

The registration process for LaunchPad uses your mobile phone number or email address that you have on file with the school in our current student information system. If your mobile phone number or email address has recently changed, and you have not notified the school, you will want to do this before August so you can complete your registration in LaunchPad. Please call the office at 407.884.2208 or you can send an email to [email protected]

Once you have completed the registration process, LaunchPad will then provide you with an automated login to Skyward Family Access. Click here for
Skyward Family Access directions, and then click on “documentation”, follow the directions in “This is the 2nd step”.

When is your Open Campus event?

All grade level students will attend the Open Campus event on Thursday, August 5th

Come get your schedule, meet your teachers, find your classrooms and pick up a class syllabus.  Printed copies of your schedule will be available in the Gym.  All families need to come to the Gym and pick up a printed schedule.  Schedules have been changing, so EVERYONE needs to come get a paper copy.  Join PTSA and get your schedule early at 3:30 pm.  Masks are strongly encouraged since there will be crowds of people here.

Thursday, August 5th

6th grade Orientation in the auditorium at 4:30 pm

Walk campus from 4:30 pm to 6:30 pm

Get your schedule and early seating in the auditorium at 3:30 pm if you join the PTSA

*Save time by joining the PTSA online now!  You can also pay $10 cash (small bills) or check on the day of the event.   Join here: https://ammsseahawksfl.memberhub.com/store

If you cannot make it to the school on August 5th, you can come to the office to pick up your schedule anytime between the hours of 8:00 am to 4:00 pm on Friday, Aug. 6th or Monday, Aug. 9th.   Teachers may not be available, but you can walk the campus to find your rooms.

**Do not bring supplies to Open Campus.  Your teachers will let you know what supplies students will need on their syllabus.  General supplies for the first week of school are:  laptop computer; backpack; notebook paper; pen/pencil; two-pocket folders (7, one for each class) or one binder with 7 dividers to put papers in for each class; refillable water bottle.

Are there supplies my child should have?

You will receive a supply list from each of your teachers in August.  This is just a generic list that will be perfect for the first day of school.  Specific supplies for each class may be needed periodically throughout the school year.

How can I see what is in my child’s Canvas class?
You can communicate with the teacher and see what assignments are in the canvas class by following these directions to become a parent observer:

1st Step is for the Student:
• 1. Login to Launchpad and then into Canvas
• 2. Click on “account” in the upper left hand corner of your screen once you are in Canvas.
• 3. Click “settings.”

How can I learn more about the school?
We have a virtual tour of the school on our school You Tube channel if you would like to watch it.  Please subscribe to the Apopka Memorial Middle School channel for future events and videos.

Each week the school publishes a newsletter called “The Squawk” and it will contain lots of great school information. You will also receive the weekly phone announcements from me on Sunday evenings. If you are not receiving these newsletters or the calls, please call the office and check that we have the correct email address/phone number on file for you.

What are the dress code requirements?
• Shoes must have straps around the heel.
• Clothing must cover the body from one armpit across to the other armpit and down to approximately mid-thigh.
• Tops must have straps.
• Undergarments must not be viewable.
• Rips, holes, or tears in clothing must be below the knee.

Schedule Issues or Change Requests

Change requests which will NOT be considered include:
